Originally from Birmingham in the UK. Started DJing 38 years ago but he is still practising! Ady has DJ’d in UK, Australia, Germany and Spain. He started off second time around at the great Yate All-Nighters in S.W. England, on to The Top Of The World All-Nighters in Stafford, the first few National events in Australia and more recently at the excellent Soul Fusion in Gloucestershire and at the Kings Hall All-Nighters in Stoke (in the Rare Room). In between he has been lucky enough to do guest spots at some great Soul Nights and All-Nighters such as Boomerang, Lifeline, Movin‘ On in Barcelona and at Soul City in Cologne to name a few! And now Hamburg! Can’t wait!!
Ady Pountain kommt ursprünglich aus Birmingham im Vereinigten Königreich. Vor 38 Jahren begann er seine DJ Karriere und er übt noch immer! Ady hatte DJ jobs in Großbritanien, Australien, Deutschland und Spanien. Nach einer Pause begann er erneut, aufzulegen und zwar bei den großartigen Yate All-Nighters in S.W. England, bei den The Top Of The World All-Nighters in Stafford, den ersten wenigen National events in Australien und kürzlich bei der exzellenten Soul Fusion in Gloucestershire und bei den Kings Hall All-Nighters in Stoke (im the Rare Soul-Raum). DAVE THORLEY (U.K. / Soul Shakers International)
Dave Thorley started djing in the 7ties at Yate and Wigan. Founded in the early eighties the legendary “Top of the world” Soulclub in Stafford. After Stafford he was a regular DJ at successful venues like Bretby and Manchester Ritz. He loves all kind black music and made his passion to his business too. „Beatstreet Records“ sells Blackmusic of all genres. Today Dave Thorley promotes together with Malayka „Soulshakers International“. His knowledge about Soulmusic and Soulartists is nearly infinite.
Dave Thorley begann in den 70ern in Yate und Wigan aufzulegen. Gründete in den frühen 80ern den legendären „Top Of The World“ Soulclub in Stafford. Nach Stafford war er Resident DJ bei erfolgreichen Veranstaltungen wie in Bretby und im Manchester Ritz. Er liebt jegliche Art von Blackmusic und machte diese Leidenschaft auch zu seinem Beruf. „Beatstreet Records“ verkauft Blackmusic aller Genres. Zur Zeit veranstaltet Dave Thorley gemeinsam mit Malayka Erpen „Soulshakers International“. Sein Wissen über Soulmusik und Soulkünstler ist beinahe unendlich.

MALAYKA ERPEN (U.K. / Soul Shakers Weekender Bamberg)
Malayka started to promote her first venue in 1998 in Bamberg, called “Sweetest songs in town” and “Sunday Soul”. A few years later she founded together with Martin Walgenbach the Soulshakers rare soul club, which is still regularly held at the Morph Club in Bamberg. Beside of this regular club she also promotes the Bamberg Weekender. After moving to the UK, she started together with Dave Thorley the english version of Soulshakers – Soulshakers International, held at Solihull Football Club, Birmingham. Malayka is djing at a variety of soulclubs in the UK as well as in Germany. Her heart beats for 7ties, 8ties and Y2K Soulmusic.
Malayka veranstaltet ihren ersten Club 1998 in Bamberg, unter den Namen „Sweetest Songs In Town“ und „Sunday Soul“. Ein paar Jahre später gründete sie mit Martin Walgenbach den „Soulshakers“ Rare Soul Club, welcher immer noch regelmäßig im Morph Club in Bamberg stattfindet. Neben diesen regelmäßigen Soulclub veranstaltet sie auch den „Bamberg Weekender“. Malayka legt bei einer Vielzahl von Soulclubs sowohl in Großbritannien als auch Deutschland auf. Ihr Herz schlägt für 70er, 80er und 21st Century Soulmusic.
MARC FORREST (Berlin / Hip City Soul Club)
Marc Forrest started DJing kind of accidentally at the former Mod Club Sigmundshof on New Year’s Eve 1986. He is regularly and exclusively playing soul music ever since as well as running the Hip City Soul Club Berlin since 1990. He almost went broke with the first German Soul Weekender which took place in 1990. He also did fanzines like “r&b time” and “Grapevine” as well as the radio shows “Soulful Shoes” (Radio 100) and “Harlem Shuffle” from the late 1980s to the mid 90s. After his first gig in London in 1991 he successfully played regular spots in Manchester, London’s 100 Club and the scandinavian soul nations Sweden and Norway.

Marc Forrest legt seit einem eher zufällig geborenen Engagement im damaligen Berliner Mod Keller Sigmundshof zum Silvesterfest 1986 regelmäßig und ausschließlich Soul auf. Seit 1990 veranstaltet er regelmäßig den Hip City Soul Club Berlin. 1990 trieb er sich beinahe mit dem ersten deutschen Soul Weekender in den Ruin. Bereits Ende der achtziger bis in die neunziger Jahre hinein kamen noch Fanzine Projekte wie etwa „r&b time“ und „grapevine“ wie auch eigene wöchentliche Radiosendungen wie „soulful shoes“ (radio 100) und „Harlem shuffle“ (MDR) hinzu. Nach dem ersten Gig in London 1991 hat er bereits erfolgreich regelmäßig in Manchester, Londons 100 Club und den skandinavischen Soulnationen Schweden und Norwegen aufgelegt.

MATT FOX (Cologne)
Matt Fox pops up in ones mind when thinking about his show Rare Rillen (2007-2010) on Soulsender.de or when thinking about his podcasts that have a global fan base. As a DJ he takes care of “distributing” smiling faces with his wonderful midtempo sound. Soul across the board… that’s what he does! That’s his trademark. His regular All-Nighter SOUL CITY (every 4th Saturday in a month) with his buddies Kristian Auth (Soul Inn, Berlin), Torge Draeger & Gabriel Riquelme (La Nuit De Phonque) @ the club “Bahnhof Ehrenfeld” is since last year the new soul hot spot in Cologne, Germany. Guests in this club will be greeted with sounds like 50s/60s R’n’B, 60s/70s Rare & Northern Soul and the occasional funk tune. An insider’s tip if every once in a while you enjoy to be entertained by important European guest Djs. It’s worth it checking out the program!
Matt Fox verbindet man oft mit seiner Rare Rillen Show (2007-2010) auf Soulsender.de oder seinen Podcasts, die weltweit gehört werden. Aber auch als DJ auf diversen Nightern/Weekendern (Deutschland, Italien oder auch England) sorgt er mit seinem wundervollen (primär) Midtempo Sound dafür, dass man als Gast nicht anders kann, als mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht zu schwofen. Soul across the board ist sein Markenzeichen! Seit letztem Jahr organisiert er mit Kristian Auth (Soul Inn, Berlin),Torge Draeger & Gabriel Riquelme (La Nuit De Phonque) einen eigenen regelmäßigen All-Nighter SOUL CITY (jeden vierten Samstag im Monat) in dem neuen Kölner Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld. Den Gast erwarten dort Sounds wie 50s/60s R’n’B, 60s/70s Rare & Northern Soul mit der ein oder anderen Funk Nummer. Auch hier finden sich des Öfteren wichtige Gast DJs der europäischen Szene im Programm wieder.
SEBASTIAN GERSTUNG (Mainz)
Shortly after he got to listen to some soul-compilation CDs, which his big brother gave him, Sebastian found himself thrilled at the Frankfurt Uptight Soulweekender. Bitten by the (soul)bug he started collecting records in 1999. In 2003, with effort to gain DJ-experience and trying to spread the groove, Sebastian & his best mate started hosting their own Soul & Reggae Night called ‚A night apart‘ located in Wiesbaden. Around the same time he was lucky enough to be supported by the Frankfurt Soulweekender Crew, which was a big motivation. Until now he has been involved in setting up several events in Mainz like the LuxClub, Mainz Sundowner and others. Starting with a collection of Soul 45s mainly from the sixties, you can nowadays find the whole range of Soul in his yellow record box. Due to his special love for Crossover he is obsessed with its typical sophisticated percussion backings. Since his first DJ-trials lead to more and more DJgigs he made his steps into the ‚big‘ world of soul, Djing at Soulnights and Weekenders like Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Dresden, Valencia (E), Aachen, Hamburg and Switzerland.
Bald nachdem ihm sein großer Bruder ein paar Soul-Sampler Cds zugesteckt hatte, fand sich Sebastian begeistert auf dem Frankfurt Uptight Soulweekender wieder. Gepackt vom Soulfieber fing er 1999 an, die ersten Schallplatten zu sammeln. 2003, mit dem Ehrgeiz, DJ-Erfahrung zu sammeln und die Musik weiterzugeben, fingen Seb & sein guter Freund an, ihre erste eigene Veranstaltung ‚A Night Apart‘ auf die Beine zu stellen, welche in Wiesbaden stattfand. Circa zur selben Zeit fand er große Unterstützung durch das Frankfurt Soulweekender-Team, welche eine zusätzliche Motivation darstellte. Bis jetzt war er an der Organisation mehrerer Veranstaltungen in Mainz beteiligt, so z.B. den Lux Club, Mainz Sundowner und anderen. Wo er anfangs hauptsächlich 60s Soul 45s sammelte, findet sich mittlerweile die ganze Spannbreite des Souls in seiner Plattenkiste wieder. Eine spezielle Vorliebe für den Crossover und dessen typischen Percussionklängen ist wahrscheinlich nicht zu überhören. Mittlerweile dreht er seine Scheibchen auf Soulnightern und Weekendern wie Nürnberg,Frankfurt,Dresden,Valencia, Aachen, Hamburg, in der Schweiz und sonstwo.
LAZY (Aachen / Aachen Soul Weekender)
Handsome Hubert from the imperial city Aachen. Provides soul music for happy dancing moments until the early morning. Alemannia Aachen since 1992. Magic Potion Allnighter since 2002. Aachen Soul Weekender since 2006. Miscellaneous guest performances at home and abroad as well as in the republic’s metropolises (e.g. Emmerich and Ochtrup) and also in cities like Munich, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Hamburg.
Schöner Hubert aus der Kaiserstadt. Sorgt mit Soulmusik für glückliche Tanzmomente bis in den frühen Morgen. Alemannia Aachen since 1992. Magic Potion Allnighter since 2002. Aachen Soul Weekender since 2006. Diverse Gastspiele im benachbarten In- und Ausland sowie in den Metropolen der Republik (z.B. LARS BULNHEIM (Hamburg)
As promoter and resident of the “Shelter Club” and “Soul at the Mandarin Casino” Hamburg’s local hero Lars Bulnheim has his unique collection spinning for quite a few years now. But Lars is also a nationwide and even European constant, you will regularly find him on the line up of in-demand soul events such as the Nuernberg and the Rimini Soul Weekender, just to name two. Though his musical focus is on 70s soul, excursions into the 60s are a natural part of his set. His magic touch in the selection of tunes and his feeling for the dancefloor guarantee exactly what a soul fan could wish for: danceable, stirring and soulful music!
Der Hamburger Lokalmatador Lars Bulnheim bringt seit vielen Jahren als Resident DeeJay und Veranstalter des „Shelter Clubs“ und „Soul at the Mandarin Casino“ seine einzigartige Plattensammlung zum Rotieren. Aber auch überregional ist Lars seit langem eine feste Größe, regelmäßig findet man ihn im Line Up anspruchsvoller Soul Events wie dem Nürnberger und dem Rimini Soul Weekender, um nur zwei zu nennen. Der musikalische Schwerpunkt liegt bei Lars auf Seventies Soul, Ausflüge zu den Sixties gehören aber selbstverständlich auch mit zum Programm. Das glückliche Händchen bei der Auswahl seiner Platten und das Gespür für den Dancefloor garantieren genau das, was man sich als Soul Fan wünscht: tanzbare, mitreißende beseelte Musik!
MATU (Hamburg / For Dancers Only)
Matu was born 1967 in germany’s “motown” & championcity. 1996 it gravitated him towards the northern soul stronghold Hamburg. Since 2003 he is a member of the “For Dancers Only” crew, together with The one & only Baster und The Jan.

OLIVER DIETRICH (HH / Elbe Rhythm’n’Soul Club)
Infected 1984 by a carelessly used MC from England. No treatment could suppress the symptoms. Final stage then the removal to Hamburg 2005. Since then different therapy groups in Hamburg, Lübeck, Bremen and Berlin. Since 2010 established in therapy at the RHYTHM ‚N‘ SOUL CLUB, Hamburg.
Infiziert 1984 durch eine unachtsam genutzte MC aus England. Keine Behandlung konnte die Symptome unterdrücken. Endstadium dann mit den Umzug nach Hamburg 2005. Seitdem verschiedene Therapiegruppen in Hamburg, Lübeck, Bremen und Berlin. Seit 2010 fest in Therapie im ELBE RHYTHM ‚N‘ SOUL CLUB, Hamburg.
THORSTEN WEGNER (HH / Pure Soul Records)
Our favourite vinyl dealer Thorsten from Hamburg – one part of www.puresoul.de is also with us! As he would have come to the weekender anyway, we talked him into bringing along some of his great 7“s and to play them in his very own style. Comments: “He always seems a bit scatterbrained” or “He can barely use the equipment”. I would say: “You can dance on it for sure!”
Thorsten, unser Lieblings-Plattenhändler aus Hamburg, eine Hälfte von www.puresoul.de, ist auch dabei. Da er sowieso als Gast gekommen wäre, haben wir ihn ermuntert ein paar seiner tollen Platten mitzubringen und in seiner sehr eigenen Art aufzulegen. Kommentare: „Er wirkt stets etwas verhuschelt“ oder aber “He can barely use the equipment.”

NILS SÖHL (HH)
Standing behind the decks for almost twenty years Nils Söhl, formely known as “Captain Vic”, has been dj-ing in the european Rockabilly scene from Barcelona to Billstedt (Hamburg). He has a passion for wild and danceable Rhythm’n’Blues with verve & beat, which he, after a couple of drinks, mixes skilfully with hot intros and raw blues tunes.
Nils Söhl steht seit fast zwanzig Jahren an den Plattentellern, vormals unter seinem DJ-Pseudonym „Captain Vic“ durch die europäische Rockbillyszene von Barcelona bis Billstedt tingelend, gilt seine Leidenschaft nun ganz und gar wilden und tanzbaren RhythmnBlues mit Verve und Beat, den er stets alkoholisiert aber gekonnt, mit heißen Instros und rauen Bluesnummern mixt.
THE JAN (HH / For Dancers Only)
The Jan is an early mod from Hamburg. In the early 80s he started the mod fanzine “Modern Boys” with Olaf Ott (Soul Allnighter). Today he books bands at Hamburg’s Club Hafenklang. And once a month The Jan makes his audience spin to (mainly mid-tempo) Northern Soul and R’n’B treasures at “For Dancers Only”. He might give in to his hidden passion for modern soul at this weekend …
The Jan ist Hamburger Mod der ersten Stunde. Bereits in den frühen 80er Jahren gründete er mit Olaf Ott (Soul Allnighter) das Mod Fanzine „Modern Boys“. Mittlerweile ist er Band-Booker im Hafenklang. Und einmal im Monat bringt The Jan bei „For Dancers Only“ sein Publikum mit (bevorzugt mid-tempo) Northern Soul und R’n’B Perlen zum Kreiseln. Seiner unausgelebten Leidenschaft für Modern Soul wird er möglicherweise an diesem Wochenende nachgeben …
RALF MEHNERT (Hamburg)
In 1986 a mini mod danced rather badly at Olaf Ott’s and Leif Nüske’s Christmas “Soul Allnighter” at the Kir/Hamburg and bought his first Kent and Soul Supply compilations. At this point Ralf Mehnert could not know that his romantic teenage relationship would turn into a love affair lasting for more than twenty years now. He followed his first DJ appearance at the Kiel Scooterrun with sets at various scooter runs and allnighters all over Germany as well as at the “Cleethorpes Soul Weekender” and the “These Old Shoes Niter” in London. Until 2003 Ralf regularly played the “Turnin‘ Your Heartbeat Up” Weekender in Nuernberg. In 2006 he and The Jan decided to finally kick off the first Hamburg Soul Weekender.
1986 tanzte ein Mini-Mod eher schlecht als recht auf Olaf Otts und Leif Nüskes Weihnachts-Soul Allnighter im Kir herum und besorgte sich die ersten Kent und Soul Supply Sampler. Dass aus dieser teeniesk-romantischen Liaison eine nun schon 20 Jahre andauernde feste Beziehung wurde, konnte Ralf Mehnert damals nicht erahnen. Ersten DJ-Bemühungen auf dem Kieler Scooterrun 1987 folgten über die Jahre Sets auf diversen Scooterruns und Allnightern in Deutschland sowie dem Cleethorpes Soul Weekender und beim These Old Shoes Niter in London. Ralf legte bis 2003 regelmäßig auf dem Turnin’ Your Heartbeat Up Weekender in Nürnberg auf. 2006 beschloss er mit The Jan, nun endlich auch in Hamburg den ersten Soul Weekender vom Stapel zu lassen.
